Chateau Feely organic and biodynamic trail is a physical trail in the vineyard and a virtual trail accessible here at www.ChateauFeely.com. Its objective is to explain organic and biodynamic farming and winemaking, to answer your questions about what it is, why it’s important and what you can do too. We also offer many options for guided visits.
Come and walk the trail (10 euro per adult, free for children – includes tasting 2 wines), or visit on the trail via the website below (scroll down for links to all the sections). We would love to see you here!
There are eight point of demonstration (POD) areas dedicated to eight topics:
- POD 1 – Chateau Feely welcome and history (this page)
- POD 2 – What is organic wine? and Terroir
- POD 3 – Why choose organic wine?
- POD 4 – What is biodynamics?
- POD 5 – Organic winegrowing
- POD 6 – Biodynamic winegrowing
- POD 7 – Organic, biodynamic and natural winemaking
- POD 8 – Actions to make a difference
The Chateau Feely biodynamic trail is dedicated to the memory of Pierre Masson, a major force in biodynamic research, education and publication. Pierre gifted Chateau Feely the cow’s horn and the silica crystal stone in the display table to be part of this education trail.
Chateau Feely History
The Feelys dreamed of going organic wine farming for more than a decade. In 2005 the dream became reality with the purchase of Chateau Feely, a farm in liquidation with great potential. At the time 1% of French vineyards were organic, it was seen as a radical fringe. By 2018 10% of French vineyards organic. The Feelys discovered that organic solutions did not fully solve fungal disease, particularly downy mildew. They investigated biodynamic methods and found them effective.
They realised that biodynamics was much more than a way to solve fungal disease. You can read the full story of Feely farm adventure in Caro’s books: Grape Expectations, Saving our Skins, Vineyard Confessions and Cultivating Change and learn more about wine -all available for sale in the tasting room and online at the link.
