Latest pesticide statistics make for dismal reading
This week the French association Generations Futurs released their ‘Glyph Awards’ the award for the biggest consumers of pesticides in France.
See their detailed list of pesticide purchases. Glyphosate (the active ingredient in the herbicide called Roundup) clocks in at close to a whopping 6 million tons purchased in 2019. This is a substance that President Macron had promised to ban by January 2021. He backtracked recently and said we couldn’t do without it. The proof that we can do without it can be found in the more than 50 000 organic farms in France.
Buying organic is the only way to be sure you are not encouraging glyphosate use. We have to stop this crazy poisoning of our land, water and air. Look at the details to see how bad your local area is. We are all responsible for this through what we buy. If no one buys conventional products farmed with glyphosate there would be no sales of it.
For what Glyphosate is and a global view see our article on growth of herbicide consumption.
