A walk on the wild side
This is a short photographic walk through the wild things – a 3 hectare conservation and biodiversity zone at chateau Feely.
Sean had found a giant tree that he wanted to show me before the spring growth got too dense and we couldnt get through to it. This is the drop off point from the bottom of the hillside sauvignon parcel.
From there we followed a game path to the tree giant. We are not sure what it is, its not any of the obvious ones like oak or walnut, and it is so much older than any other trees in there, Sean took close up photos to try to id it.
Down there the orchids were already flowering.
At times it felt like an enchanted forest (which I guess it is since trees and plants are pretty magical).
The exit wasnt quite what I had expected- a very steep climb to pop out at the bottom of the young Sauv blanc.
We felt pretty euphoric . Was it the enchanted forest?… the craziness of that climb out at the end? or a necessary release from the fear of the frost that has been stalking us for 2 days?
Whatever it was we lay on the grass and laughed.
