The WSET Level 2 course in November was a great group and a good set of wines. Here is a photo round-up of some of the wine sets. We taste over 40 wines in two and a half days and cover a significant amount of information about wines of the world – it is intense.
The Merlot Cabernet wine tasting included some heavy hitters from our region: Chateau Guadet grand cru classé in St Emilion and Chateau Carbonnieu grand cru classé in pessac leognon. The chardonnay set included wines from California, Australia, Chablis and Viré Clessé.
The Shiraz / Syrah took us to chateauneufdupape, Cornas in the Northern Rhone and Australia with a penfolds everyday Rawsons Retreat and a penfolds Bin 2 premium shiraz mataro. The Dr Loosen Bernkasteler Lay that was part of the Riesling set was packed with flavour but our favourite of the whites was a beautiful Sancerre (not photographed here) part of our sauvignon blanc set.
Photo of the team hard at work tasting. One of the favourites of the reds (if not the favourite) was a clos de los Siete– Michel Rolland’s estate in Argentina, a wine that is a blend of many grapes with Malbec being the first listed.
And finally after 100% (or so!) spitting for 3 days… The exam was over and they were ready for a drink – to enjoy a glass of sparkling. According to the group it was extremely tough with many tricky questions. Fingers are crossed for the results.
