Hail damage vines repair and respair

On 2 June 2022 we were hit with a devastating hail storm. This update two weeks later is filled with hope.

The photos below show before and then two weeks after the hailstorm. The vines are covered in new green growth. Their regeneration is so swift and miraculous it gives me goosebumps. We feel respair – hope after a period of despair – a new word learnt from our neighbour, artist, and friend, Mike Rumsby. His recent solo show in London was themed respair, an old English word so apt for how we feel.

New stems and leaves are forming. They won’t bring back the lost harvest, but they help to ripen what is left, and form potential canes for next year.

I am in awe at the vine’s swift regeneration.
